Did America Vote for 'The Voice's' Adorable Out Contestant De'Borah?

It’s been a big week for voting, and following the national election that so many gains for women and LGBTs it was back to throwing one’s vote behind stuff that doesn’t really matter at the end of the day but gets us riled up anyway – like casting votes for The Voice’s first live rounds of the season! And, for those of you keeping up, there were a few surprises.

It’s been a big week for voting, and following the national election that brought so many gains for women and LGBTs, it was back to throwing one’s vote behind stuff that doesn’t really matter at the end of the day but gets us riled up anyway – like casting votes for The Voice’s first live rounds of the season! And, for those of you keeping up, there were a few surprises.

SPOILERS!!

Namely, the out preacher’s daughter with the big voice and bigger heart, De’Borah Garner, did not make the cut to the next round. A member of team Christina who came out during the blind auditions blasting her amazing pipes and decked out in her signature style of skinny pants, a bow tie and colorful plastic framed glasses, De’Borah came out on camera immediately and subsequently became the show’s only openly gay contestant this season.

De’Borah, whom Cee-Lo told had a lot of soul, won over the hearts of fans and, most of all, her coach Christina Aguilera, making it through the blind auditions, the battle rounds and the knock-out rounds. But when it came to America’s vote De’Borah was not chosen.

America’s votes this week saved two contestants from each of the four coaches’ teams while each coach got to choose one person to save, resulting in two people from each team going home. Of Team Christina America chose to save belter Sylvia Yacoub, who gave a stirring rendition of Katy Perry’s “The One That Got Away” --while accompanying herself on the piano – and pretty boy Dez Duron, who frankly, bores this The Voice fan to tears. Still, he’s cute, and it’s pretty much a foregone conclusion judging from the good-looking male winners of The Voice and American Idol since 2007 that it’s tween girls, gay guys and the same demographic of middle-aged women who've made 50 Shades of Grey an international success who decide these things. Expect to see him around until the end.

When it came to Christina’s save for the week she chose young Adriana Louise, who also sang a Katy Perry tune this week – “Firework.” The diva coach extraordinaire said she felt that America hadn’t really gotten to see Adriana in action, and I’d have to agree as I could not pick the lovely young woman out of a vocal line-up if my life depended on it, so here's hoping she gets her chance to shine.

Farewell to De’Borah, who showed so much potential it looked liked she’d make it to the final four. Honestly, I thought the lesbians would rally around this adorable young role model but I guess people have other things to do besides gnash their teeth over reality show contests. Silly me. While De’borah was one of two reasons I’m actually still compelled to watch the show against my will –Team Adam’s outstanding soul and rock wailer Amanda Brown being the other – I guess I’ll just be thankful that America got the President, Tammy Baldwin and marriage in four states right this time.

Here’s a walk down De’Borah memory lane.
