Eliza Dushku, perhaps best known as Faith on Buffy but more recently starring in two short-lived series, Tru Calling and Joss Whedon's Dollhouse, is ready to kick off the new year with a brand new gig.
The actress will star as the leading lady in a reboot of the 1960s Roger Moore TV show, The Saint. Dushku will play Patricia Holm, the on-again-off-again romantic interest for lead hero Simon Templar, to be played by Adam Rayner, according to HitFix.com. The cast and crew begin production this week on the pilot, which is reportedly being scheduled as a "backdoor pilot," meaning the first episode could air as a standalone movie, even if the series doesn't get picked up.
The original series of novels, novellas, and short stories was created by British author Leslie Charteris, and stars Templar as a Robin Hood-style thief fighting corruption among the rich and powerful. HitFix reports that The Saint has already spawned several spinoffs since its print debut in the 1920s, including a 1997 film starring Val Kilmer.
Let's just hope, for Dusku's sake, that this pilot doesn't go the way of so many of her too-good-to-stay-on-TV series.
