After last night’s The Voice we know there’s at least one out performer headed to the finals! Lead singer of the Ann Arbor based band Ella Riot (Ella, as it Fitzgerald), Michelle Chamuel turned three chairs with her ground down version of Katy Perry’s much-loved (and often hated) “I Kissed a Girl.”

Chamuel, sporting skinny jeans and thick, black-rimmed glasses caught the attention of Adam Levine, Shakira and Usher. Following much debate, the out singer, whom AfterEllen interviewed in 2010, went with whatever her gut was telling her and chose to be on Usher’s team.

Ella Riot, formerly My Dear Disco, played Lollapalooza in 2010, but securing a spot on The Voice is sure to gain loads of attention for the Amherst, Mass. Native.

When asked about breaking down stereotypes about lesbian musicians in her AfterEllen article Chamuel replied, I don't think of myself as "a lesbian musician" or a "Jewish artist." It's not one and alone. I think of myself as a musician. I'm not in to labels, which makes it so that I don't live by them anyway, so I'm not trying to fit into a category. I think people should do whatever they want. Look. I have a straight leg and a gay leg [shows us her one shaved and one unshaved leg].
