WATCH: Lesbian-Themed French Film 'Bye Bye Blondie' Opens the Boston LGBT Film Festival

The Boston LGBT Film Festival opens tonight with Virginie Despentes’ new lesbian film, Bye Bye Blondie. Despentes’ debut film, Rape Me, was nominated for the Golden Leopard award at the Locarno Film Festival, but the acclaimed director has followed that film with a much lighter story of two women on a quest to rekindle their romance from decades past. Actresses Emmanuelle Béart and Béatrice Dalle play the aging but gorgeous Frances and Gloria, respectively, who reunite when Frances’ gay husband and work life leave her feeling less than satisfied.

Opening at the Institute of Contemporary Art, the Boston LGBT Film Festival is the largest LGBT media event in New England.   According to the website, “The Boston LGBT Film Festival celebrates, displays and distributes work by and for LGBT media makers – work that entertains, enriches and enlightens all audiences in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and allied communities.”  Their extensive film guide boasts an impressive line-up of over 100 narrative features, docs and short films.

Actresses Emmanuelle Béart and Béatrice Dalle play the aging but gorgeous Frances and Gloria, respectively, who reunite when Frances’ gay husband and work life leave her feeling less than satisfied.  The film has strong performances, a fantastic score, and a cast of ladies who are quite easy on the eyes.  Co-presented by Kristen Porter’s Dyke Night, the film starts at 8pm, and tickets are still available.  For film and ticket information, visit the website here
