Outfest LA, Los Angeles’ eleven-day LGBT Film Festival, has announced its Opening Night film, C.O.G., starring Dale Dickey, Jonathan Groff, and Pretty Little Liars’ Troian Bellisario. C.O.G. is the first feature film based on the writings of David Sedaris, and it premiered in competition at the Sundance Film Festival.

This year’s Outfest opens on July 11 at the Orpheum Theater in Downtown Los Angeles.  Prior to the screening of the Opening Night film, Outfest will present its 17th annual Achievement Award to Kimberley Peirce, best known for her groundbreaking film Boys Don’t Cry, starring Hilary Swank.  Peirce, who is openly gay, also directed the much-anticipated remake of Carrie, which will be released later this year.

“One of Outfest's principal goals has been to celebrate the many voices of LGBT storytelling on film, and we couldn't be more excited to honor Kimberly Peirce's extraordinary filmmaking career while also heralding writer-director Kyle Patrick Alvarez's stunning sophomore feature capturing David Serdaris’ hilarious tone,” said Kirsten Schaffer, Outfest Executive Director.  “The mix promises to make this our most memorable Opening Night.”

Outfest LA will run from July 11 – 21, 2013, and the complete lineup will be announced at the beginning of June.
