Reaching for the Moon, based on the unlikely love affair between two women, an American poet and a Brazilian Architect in 1950's-era Brazil, is based on the 1995 Brazilian best seller "Rare and Commonplace Flowers," and it's out in theaters today!
The film, directed by Bruno Barreto, details the unlikely romance forged when American poet Elizabeth Bishop (Miranda Otto) and famed architect Lota de Macedo Soares (Glória Pires) meet in Brazil as Bishop travels to visit a mutual friend, Mary (Tracy Middendorf).
Political unrest, alcoholism, and distance eventually come between the two, who forge a classical love story as the two remarkable artists navigate love and their professional lives together in the 1950s.
