Evan Rachel Wood Tapped to Play Kate Winslet's Daughter in New Mildred Pierce

The re-imagining of Mildred Pierce is turning out to be the gayest thing since - well - the original Mildred Pierce Joan Crawford vehicle. And now, True Blood's lesbian vampire queen Evan Rachel Wood is signed on to Far From Heaven director Todd Haynes's mini-series of the noir classic, which will star Kate Winslet.

While Winslet will step into Crawford's depression-era waitressing shoes to portray Mildred, Wood has signed on to play her invidious daughter Veda. Just ignore that there's only about a decade between Winslet and Wood. In films including Thirteen and The Wrestler, Wood has shown her flair for locking horns with parental figures.

Also on tap is Guy Pearce to star in the five-hour adaptation for HBO of James M. Cain's noir thriller. Crawford won the Academy Award for the original 1945 film that Casablanca director Michael Curtiz helmed.
