It’s been an up and down week for Glee news. Earlier this week creator Ryan Murphy announced the bad news that he was graduating three of the show’s stars Lea Michelle, Chris Colfer and Cory Monteith at the end of this season, but now there’s this terrific news that Idina Menzel will be returning this season as Rachel Berry’s mom for a 10 – 12 episode arc, according to Deadline.

The multi-talented actress Menzel first won collective lesbians’ hearts playing half of the lesbian couple in Broadway’s Rent and then as the beautiful green outcast Elphaba in Wicked. Menzel signed on for Glee’s debut season starring as Shelby, Rachel’s (Lea Michelle) bio mom and glee club leader Will Schuester’s (Matthew Morrison) ex fling. Shelby was also rival glee club Vocal Adrenaline’s vocal coach and she adopted Quinn and Puck’s baby. That should offer plenty fodder for a new season of Menzel on Glee!
Deadline reports that Shelby will return to Ohio as a new teacher at McKinley High who will complicate things for Rachel and Will.
Here’s looking forward to plenty of Menzel / Michelle vocal pairings this season.

Here are Menzel and Michelle singing "I Dreamed a Dream" on Glee's first season.
