The Chicago Code, Fox’s crime drama starring former L Word actress Jennifer Beals, has been cancelled after just one season. Shawn Ryan, the show’s creator, tweeted about the cancellation on Tuesday saying “Fox suits loved the show, but have a business to run.”

While it's beyond us how a show with Beals as a tough-talking cop wasn't a mega-hit from day one, HitFix’s Alan Sepinwall reported ratings for The Chicago Code “had never been especially strong.”

The show filmed on location in Chicago, and compared to most series shot in the Windy City, really attempted to capture the city’s culture by referencing local history and shooting in prominent and obscure areas, according to the Chicago Sun Times.

The Chicago Code was not the only series cancelled by Fox. The network also dropped Traffic Light, Lie To Me, Breaking In and The Human Target. Fox has several pilots in the works including a Bones spinoff called The Finder, The New Girl starring Zooey Deschanel, and Alcatraz produced by JJ Abrams.

Ryan tweeted that the last two episodes of The Chicago Code will air the next two Mondays, adding that viewers will feel the series finale is “satisfying.”
