POWER UP went coed this year at its annual gala, honoring not only its Top 10 Amazing Gay Women in Show Biz, but also the Top 10 Amazing Gay Men in Showbiz.
Recipients honored for work in the entertainment industry were guitarist Sharon Isbin --who guest-starred as herself on an episode of The L Word and who also lent her musical prowess to Martin Scorcese's The Departed-- A League of Their Own and Exes and Ohs star Megan Cavanagh, 9 to 5 writer Patricia Resnick, Anyone But Me's creator Susan Miller and Emmy-winning funny lady Liz Feldman, among others.
Itty Bitty Titty Committee and But I'm a Cheerleader director Jaime Babbit hosted while Killola performed. Stay tuned for video of the event! Meanwhile, SheWired was on hand to livestream the awards, which took place at Social Hollywood.
POWER UP was conceived and founded by Stacy Codikow in October 2000 with the mission "to promote the visibility and integration of gay women in entertainment, arts and all forms of media," POWER UP has been "challenging perception through film," which is one of POWER UP's greatest accomplishments and gifts. Since its inception POWER UP has produced award-winning shorts and features including Itty Bitty, Prom-troversy, Little Black Boot, The Nearly Unadventurous Life of Zoe Cadwaulder and D.E.B.S.
