Halloween came early to the boxoffice, as Zombieland was the nation's No. 1 film, collecting $25 million and bumping defending champ Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs to No. 2 after its two-week run. Meanwhile, Drew Barrymore's directorial debut Whip It, starring Ellen Page, slid to No. 7 in its second week of release.

Keeping up on the wave of vampire-themed film and TV hits, Overture is remaking the Swedish fanger Let the Right One In. Richard Jenkins will star in the English-language remake, to be retitled Let Me In. Child actress Chole Moretz will star.

Kristen Bell will star as Christina Aguilera's rival in Burlesque, a musical drama following the journey of an ambitious small-town girl with a big voice who finds love and success at an L.A. burlesque club. Bell will play Nikki, the lead dancer and main attraction at the club who goes nuts when Aguilera's character suddenly takes over the spotlight.

Parker Posey has joined the cast of Highland Park, the story of a high school faculty in a struggling community. Posey will play Shirley Paine, the former homecoming queen who becomes mayor.

In TV ratings, ABC continues to make headlines with its Thursday lineup featuring rookie FlashFoward, Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice winning in their respective time slots. Syfy's premiere of Stargate: Universe, starring Ming Na, topped Fox's Eliza Dushku starrer Dollhouse. Needless to say, there's already a new campaign under way to save the Joss Whedon series. Meanwhile, Kate Moennig's Three Rivers debuted to 9.2 million viewers and placed fourth in the Sunday at 9 p.m. competition. Maybe the 'Save Dollhouse' people can team with L Word fans for another campaign as the bow isn't considered strong.

Fans of ABC's Ugly Betty will have to wait even longer for the dramedy starring America Ferrera to return. The network has bumped its Season 4 premiere back a week to Oct. 16. Blame the Major League Baseball playoffs for ABC's move to not air the two-hour season premiere against the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
