Kehlani is not holding back after feeling seriously disrespected in a recent interview.
“I was gunna remain quiet,” the singer, who uses she/they pronouns, wrote on an Instagram story. “Every other interview has been super bubbly, warm, informative & open. From start to finish, this interview [was] cringey, alot of mockery, and invasive as fuck.”
The interview in question was for The Morning Hustle, and immediately got off to a bad start after co-host Headkrack opted to open things up with what felt like mockery of Kehlani’s pronouns.
“They are here, and they is she, and she is with us. She goes by the name of Kehlani,” he said at the very start.
““So no scissoring with SZA” ??? 😭”— Glock Topickz (@Glock Topickz) 1652021867
Fans quickly picked up on how uncomfortable Kehlani looked throughout the interview after that initial sentiment, and things only got worse as the hosts asked her about whether she had any interest in scissoring friend and industry peer SZA, whether there was anything between her and Megan Thee Stallion, and if she knew 070 Shake — her girlfriend.
“Kehlani addressed the bad interview.
It’s definitely evident that those interviewers were unprofessional and inappropriate.
Kehlani stayed professional and well spoken, as usual.
I love and respect Kehlani.
❤️”— 👑💎 Champion King 🦁🤎 (@👑💎 Champion King 🦁🤎) 1651944465
The Morning Hustle’s Lore’l clapped back at Kehlani, claiming that they were the one who made things uncomfortable, and that they just didn’t want to do interviews with “urban media” when they had bigger interview opportunities.
“Lore’l violates Kehlani for her cringey interview on the Morning Hustle Show. “Good luck with your album, I heard it only sold 21K copies.””— IG: VideoMixtape (@IG: VideoMixtape) 1652112405
Kehlani’s fans weren’t putting up with that, and called the show out on their unprofessionalism and disrespect.
“@GiveMeACape @videomixtapetv how and why would you go on your show and disrespect a artist you invited. then go back and try to drag her cause of how she felt about what y’all said . but i guess she need that publicity”— IG: VideoMixtape (@IG: VideoMixtape) 1652112405
“@videomixtapetv You have no right to talk about professionalism, if all you can do is ask sexual questions and insult your guest to the point of making them physically uncomfortable & shut down. Its clear this Lore'l woman is the one who needs additional training. Kehlani did not deserve that.”— IG: VideoMixtape (@IG: VideoMixtape) 1652112405
“As a brand new Kehlani stan, I've watched a ton of their interviews. They're not the problem. *SOME* Black media personalities think they're going to get on by being shock jocks and they didn't play along.”— Kimberly Nicole Foster (@Kimberly Nicole Foster) 1652200291
“@videomixtapetv Lore'l
"So you scissoring sza? How about Meg, I've heard about Meg"

Also Lore'l

" We were not being invasive!!! We asked about your music"”— IG: VideoMixtape (@IG: VideoMixtape) 1652112405
And Kehlani herself pointed out that she didn’t disrespect them on the show despite all the things they were saying to her, while accusing them of “stretching this situation out for clout when it’s evident I was energetically RESPONDING to what was being thrown at me.”
Unfortunately for fans, Kehlani has said that they are swearing off most interviews after that bad experience, opting to only speak to a “select few folks anymore who really care about me deeply and have always been in my corner.”
It only takes a few people to ruin it for everyone else!
