"I don't like to make people think I'm presenting myself in a way I shouldn't be."

British actor Alexander Lincoln made headlines this year for his performance as Mark Newton in the gay film In from the Side, and made further waves with his response to a fan's inquiry about the sexuality of the actors in the movie.

The fan expressed confusion, stating, "I loved the movie, and its actors are very handsome, but I still think that the actors are posing as gay, but they are not. Is it my doubt?" To this, the 29-year-old actor simply replied, "I'm not straight," accompanied by a heart emoji.

Little did he know that his casual response would garner such attention.

In a recent interview with Attitude, Lincoln opened up about the reaction he received from people after coming out. When asked if he expected such a big response, he said, "Not at all."

Even his own mother found out about his revelation through the media buzz. “My mum called me up and was like: 'So… you've come out?' [Laughs] Not in so many words, but sure, yeah."

Explaining his decision to address the issue directly, Lincoln revealed that he has a tendency to be straightforward and transparent. He stated, "It's one of those things. I often don't think about what I'm saying, half the time! You say something in passing. I don't like to be mysterious and vague about things. I don't like to make people think I'm presenting myself in a way I shouldn't be. So, I felt this obligation to say something about it. Which I don't regret. But [suddenly] it's everywhere."

With the success of In from the Side, Lincoln shared that he now has an American manager and hinted at exciting opportunities in the United States, teasing, "there's way more US stuff coming in."

We can't wait!
