British YouTuber and Host Niki Albon Comes Out as Gay

British YouTuber Niki Albon has come out to join the LGBTQ+ fam!

Niki makes videos with his twin brother, Sammy, under the appropriately titled channel “Niki and Sammy.” The pair have been making videos on and off since 2013, while also devoting time to working as hosts, both on live streams and the radio.

But despite making videos about their lives for all these years, Niki kept one thing to himself — and even from himself.

“I feel like underpinning [my career]…has been that I haven’t been honest and truthful the entire time, with myself, let alone everybody else. I feel like I was just being deceptive. And saying that now, it’s so stupid. But it got me down,” he says in the video he posted to YouTube yesterday.

“Not being honest was uncomfortable, and I didn’t like it. And I knew where it was coming from. And I knew that I needed to do something about it.”

Niki goes on to explain that he went to therapy to work through his issues and ultimately emailed his therapist a video of Eugene from the Try Guys coming out as gay.

“‘Look, this is what I want to talk about, because I know this is what’s effecting me the most. I’m—‘“ he breaks off at this point, clearly nervous to proceed.

“I wrote an email to my therapist that said, ‘I feel like I’ve been wasting your time and my time, because actually what I want to talk about is that I’m gay.’ And I hadn’t said that to anyone else before. That was the first time, at the age of 27, I’d said that.”

He also brings up the idea of building up the “perfect” coming out scenario, and that trying to make sure you’re doing everything “right,” and at the “right time,” and “how” and “why” and all of those qualifiers can hold you back from ever speaking your truth.

“This whole situation has made me feel much more myself than I’ve felt in years. And I feel stronger and more capable than I’ve felt in a long time,” Niki says before he signs off. “So I’m going to start my 28th year as authentically and honestly as I can, because I think I deserve that. And I owe that to my younger self.”
