Get to know the ‘El Paisa’ actors!
Written and directed by Daniel Eduvijes Carrera (Primera Comunión, The Fires of Soledad), El Paisa is a brand-new LGBTQ+ coming-of-age short film set in East Los Angeles.
Cristian Urbina plays Fernando, a queer kid who refuses to embrace his Latin-American heritage and rejects the “macho” archetype that is so common – and often toxic – within the Latinx/Latine community. After being attacked and beaten up by a gang, Fernando is rescued by a man dressed in cowboy clothes (played by David Ty Reza).
That rescue prompts Fernando to follow the cowboy into the night, which leads him to enter a Latinx gay club. In the venue, Fernando sees a lot of diversity and is forced to confront some of the stereotypes they thought were universal within the Latin-American community.
