Speaking with People, the American Horror Story and 80 For Brady star opened up about his dream of continuing to act — this time in a lead role.
Kenworthy shared that he would love nothing more than to star in a gay rom-com, and honestly we are here for it.
“It would be something similar to Bros which we just saw, but like my dream as a kid was to be the lead in a rom-com,” Kenworthy told the publication. “I loved romantic comedies — to this day, they’re still like my favorite movies.”
He sees it not just as a dream come true, but also is just a natural fit. “I just think it’s such a great formula and I would love to get to plug into that and play the lead of a rom-com, but also get to play gay would be a dream,” he shared.
Currently, Kenworthy can be seen alongside Sally Field, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno, and Lily Tomlin, in a brief cameo. The film 80 For Brady is based on the true story of four best friends who, living their best lives, decide to take a road trip to the 2017 Super Bowl LI to see their favorite player, Tom Brady hit the field.

Kenworthy had nothing but praise for his co-stars.”There aren’t bigger legends, there aren’t bigger names,” Kenworthy said. “They were all just so sweet. They all look so gorgeous, so professional, and I kind of clammed up! But it was really exciting. Like, they are the Golden Girls! It was really really cool.”
Kenworthy explained that he’s taking his craft seriously these days, trying to get his momentum back after pausing his acting career to prepare for the Olympics. “I don’t have any regrets there, I was so excited to go to another games, but I think it like kind of lost a little bit of that momentum. So I’m just trying to pick it back up. I’ve been taking classes and auditioning a lot and I just got new management and I’m just like excited. I’m hoping for more roles.”
