La Cruz is making waves in reggaeton!
With more than 250,000 followers and 2.4 million likes on TikTok (@alfonsolacruz), over 240,000 followers on Instagram (@lacruz.wav), and a whopping 8.3 million views on YouTube (@lacruz1111), La Cruz is one of the brightest new stars in the reggaeton genre. What’s more, he’s an out gay man, which means that he’s paving the way for other LGBTQ+ artists to emerge within this otherwise straight male-dominated genre.
La Cruz’s two biggest hits so far are “Te Conocí Bailando,” “Quítate La Ropa,” and “Nadie Te Va A Querer.” On Spotify, the reggeaton star currently accumulates an average of 258,000 monthly listeners. Though he was born in Venezuela, La Cruz eventually moved to Spain to pursue a music career. In 2022, he released his debut album Hawaira.
In many ways, La Cruz’s breakout and ascension has been similar to the impact Lil Nas X has been having within hip hop. Thus, we can’t wait to see how far he’s going to take reggaeton when it comes to queer representation!
