After landing in the hot seat for homophobic remarks, Big Brother star Kamuela “Kamu” Kirk is coming under fire again for a resurfaced social media post.
Fans are slamming the MMA fighter after discovering videos from December that Kirk saved in his Instagram highlights that show him mocking a person in distress who is being arrested.
Kirk is being called out by Big Brother fans for being "racist" for a now-viral video where he's in a parking lot at an apartment complex and explains that "some dude was losing his mind, [saying] 'I need help, I need help,'" as police are trying to get a man into a squad car.
In the video, the 32-year-old reality TV star laughs and claims "people [are] cheering," as the man can be heard yelling "I can't breathe" multiple times. Kirk then jokes, "Bro thinks he's George Floyd."
In May 2020, Police Officer Derek Chauvin murdered George Floyd by kneeling on his neck for nine and half minutes while Floyd cried out "I can’t breathe" over and over again. Chauvin was convicted of murder and is currently serving a 22.5 year prison sentence. The tragedy triggered a nationwide debate about police tactics and racism in America and ignited protests across the country.
"People are crazy, man. I'm going back inside. I am gonna take that spot though," Kirk said at the end of the video, referring to the parking spot the police are parked in.
This is the second time Kirk has been called out for making derogatory comments. He landed in hot water earlier in the season when he made a homophobic comment about fellow cast member Jason De Puy (known as Salina EsTitties by RuPaul's Drag Race fans). While talking to Big Brother Head of Household Rick Devens, Kirk said, "Bro, miss me with the drag stuff. Miss me. I’m still an MMA guy, and I have an image to uphold."
Fans were critical of Kirk for his anti-drag statement and are now outraged and calling for his expulsion from the show after this video resurfaced. While there are some fans who are making their own racist comments in defense of Kirk, many Big Brother viewers are disgusted by his comments about George Floyd.
"Racist as hell but also just a disgusting lack of empathy for another human being in distress. Kamu Kirk is garbage," one person wrote. Other people have called him a "monster" and are threatening to boycott the show if Kirk isn't removed. Check out reactions to the video clip below.
