The games have begun! That’s right, the Sochi Olympic Spectacular is underway and the mayor’s claim that there are no gay people in town is now most definitely non-applicable (if it ever was). Now, it’s all about figure skating, snowboarding, luging, and... that’s about all I’ve got off the top of my head, but hopefully any anti-gay beliefs will fall to the wayside as we focus on the talent, strength, and power of the world’s best (and many of them gay!) athletes.
If you do plan on inundating yourself with all things Olympics (and even better, if you’re also a huge theater aficionado), you do not want to miss “Russian Broadway Shut Down.” If the words ‘Russian Space Lesbians’ don’t entice you to turn on this viral success about “Russian Broadway”’s biggest stars trying to save their theater scene after any LGBT references must be cut from their work, then it’s possible nothing will ever entice you to do anything. FeaturingAndrew Rannels, Jonathan Groff, Harvey Fierstein, Stephen Schwartz, Laura Osnes, Stephanie J. Block, Laura Benanti, and basically every other Broadway star, “Russian Broadway Shut Down” is a musically infectious, silly, thoughtful, and as-gay-friendly-as-it-gets way to gear up for tomorrow’s opening ceremony and two weeks of Olympic fun. Perhaps this won’t be the “Day a Rainbow Fell on Russia,” but we can dream! And in the meantime, sing a lot show tunes.
It all gets pretty lesbian at about 6:45!
