Constance McMillen Seeks Damages for Fake Prom Fiasco

Constance McMillen is seeking unspecified monetary damages, claiming she was publicly humiliated after being sent to a fake prom. The ACLU filed papers Wednesday in federal court on behalf of the courageous lesbian teenager. Her fellow classmates and their parents sent the high school senior to a phony prom on April 2. "I really hoped that prom night would make all that I've been through worth it, then April 2 came and those hopes went out the window," McMillen said.

Constance McMillen is seeking unspecified monetary damages, claiming she was publicly humiliated after being sent to a fake prom.

The Advocate reports that after she challenged her school district's ban on same-sex prom dates, the 18-year-old courageous lesbian teen is at the mercy of the courts once again.

The American Civil Liberties Union filed papers Wednesday in federal court on behalf of McMillen.

Her fellow classmates and their parents sent the high school senior to a phony prom 30 miles away on April 2. The lawsuit claims her free speech rights were violated and she endured humiliation and harassment. The suit was filed in U.S. District Court in Aberdeen, Mississippi.

The Itawamba County school district and school officials are named as defendants in the lawsuit.

"I really hoped that prom night would make all that I've been through worth it, then April 2 came and those hopes went out the window," McMillen said. "All I ever wanted was to go to my school prom with my classmates and my date, like anyone else, and instead I was the target of a mean, nasty joke."
