Despite more than 110,000 signatures condemning an iPhone app by Exodus International, leaders of the organization said they are not trying to "cure" people of being gay, or promote "ex-gay" programs.
The petition calls for Apple, the makers of the iPhone, to pull the free app from its iTunes store. Truth Wins Out executive director Wayne Besen said in a statement Friday that the group would protest in front of Apple headquarters if the app is not pulled.
However, Jeff Buchanan, E.I.'s senior director of church equipping & student ministries, told TheChristian Post Monday that he and his organization should be equally and fairly represented.
He said calling the app a "gay cure" or "ex gay" app serves "as propaganda in order to stigmatize and really label the application in a false way and provoking a response such as you are seeing with the application."
The app description in iPhone's app store reads, "Exodus International is the world's largest ministry to individuals and families impacted by homosexuality. With over 35 years of ministry experience Exodus is committed to encouraging, educating and equipping the Body of Christ to address the issue of homosexuality with grace and truth."
According to the Christian Post, the app was rated 4+, and is open to users of all ages.
