The Last Station's Oscar-nominated Helen Mirren opens up about her lesbian kiss in Losing Chase and her secret crush on Ellen DeGeneres.

In the March issue of The Advocate, the 64-year-old Academy Award-winning Brit is still going strong and even garnered an Emmy for her role as Jane Tennison in Prime Suspect.

The Advocate asked the Queen what she thought of her role of Detective Tennison becoming a lesbian icon.

"Well, the character wasn't a lesbian, but Jackie Malton, the person she was based on, was a lesbian," Mirren explained. "She used to say that she came out as a gay woman very early on in her police career because she didn't want anyone to think that she'd fucked her way to the top. So she was quite a character herself, and it's interesting that somehow people picked up on that through Jane."

When asked if Chase in Losing Chase has been her only lesbian role, she replied, "Yes, I think so. But I think the most interesting actors are the ones who bring a mixed sexuality to the table-the male actors who have a lot of femininity in them and the actresses who have a lot of masculinity. That's the nature of acting, in a sense: to fall somewhere in between the sexes in general."

And if Mirren had the opportunity to play a lesbian again, whom would she pick to play your love interest? None other then Ellen, of course.

"I would just want a wonderful actress, gay or straight, but I certainly wouldn't say no to Ellen DeGeneres," the actress gushed. "I'm such a huge fan of hers and I've loved her from a distance for such a long time, so it was quite a moment for me this year to do her show, stand on her set, and see her right there in front of me." She added.

As far as whom Mirren is still dying to meet, she admits, "I love Lady Gaga because she's such a great, edgy performance artist, but really I'd like to meet Michelle Obama."
