National radio talk show host Stephanie Miller kicked off Pride season as the Grand Marshal of the Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride Parade.
“We are elated to have Stephanie Miller as our Grand Marshal,” said Bob Crow, Co-President of LBLGP, Inc. “Stephanie’s uniquely insight on today’s current affairs taps the hearts and souls of many LGBT people.”
On August 13, 2010 Miller came out as a lesbian on her radio show, The Stephanie Miller Show, and credited country singer Chely Wright with inspiring her to come out. Miller said that she had reached her personal “tipping point” for coming out to her listeners, given the number and importance of LGBT issues in the public eye. She became concerned about her ability to speak on issues such as DOMA, DADT and Prop 8 “authentically” without also sharing this part of her life.
Since its September 2004 debut, Miller's show has become one of the most important and fastest growing shows in Progressive Talk, heard across America on radio stations, on Sirius, via podcasts and free live streaming.
