Westboro Site Hacked by Anonymous During Live Debate

The secretive hacktivist group Anonymous made good on a threat to attack the website of the antigay Westboro Baptist Church on Thursday during a live debate on a talk radio show.

The secretive hacktivist group Anonymous made good on a threat to attack the website of the antigay Westboro Baptist Church on Thursday during a live debate on a talk radio show.

New York Magazine reports on the attack, which followed a week of threats by Anonymous, counter threats from Westboro, and service denials on the Westboro site for which a hacker unaffiliated with Anonymous claimed responsibility.

"For this unremitting display of overzealousness, we award you no points,” wrote Anonymous to Westboro. "The world (including Anonymous) disagrees with your hateful messages, but you have the right to voice them. This does not mean you can jump onto Anonymous for attention."
