When people think of the 2024 Golden Globes, unfortunately, what they’re probably going to remember most is how host Jo Koy absolutely mangled things. But that doesn’t mean there weren’t great moments throughout the night—including Gillian Anderson’s decision to wear a vagina-themed dress.
If you spotted the Sex Education star on the carpet and didn’t immediately take note of any NSFW content popping out, you’re not alone. But once you look more closely, you’ll see the pattern covering her gown is actually made up of nothing but vulvas.
Zoom... and enhance... Zoom... and enhance...
Make no mistake, Anderson was not trying to hide the design. When approached by Deadline on the red carpet, she immediately greeted them with a shout out to the designer, Gabriela Hearst, and a declaration that “it has vaginas on it.”
When asked why she went with that, she simply replied, “Oh, for so many reasons. It’s brand appropriate.”
It feels perfectly on point for Anderson, who later told British Vogue that incorporating the female anatomy into her dress was something she discussed with Hearst ahead of time.
“Since my Instagram presence has been highlighting yonis since Sex Education landed on Netflix and with the mantra of my brand G-Spot being to ‘prioritise pleasure,’ I wanted to bring this element into the design,” she said. “I’m so pleased Gabriela was up for the challenge!”
Folks watching at home and figuring out what the actress was wearing were, of course, absolutely tickled pink by the design.
