It appears the Irish actor is training for his upcoming role in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2, a followup to his Academy Awards Best Picture-winning blockbuster from 2000. Mescal is set to play Lucius, the nephew of Joaquin Phoenix’s Roman emperor Commodus in the historical drama.

Fans were salivating over the video commenting things like, “I didn't know how much i needed to wake up with a video of HIM training until today oh my god ?????”

It’s unclear where the original video came from, but people have tagged personal trainer Tim Blakeley @mediaphsyiques on Instagram as the source, although the original post is not on his page. Either way, we’re drooling over the video of the muscle-bound actor.

Gladiator 2 is currently filming in Malta where the 27-year-old was spotted by fans with co-star Pedro Pascal. The two posed for a photo together causing a stir on Twitter — apparently Mescal is good at that!

The pair will be starring alongside Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen, Derek Jacobi and Joseph Quinn in the long-awaited sequel.
