A recent AEW Rampage segment has gone viral after an arena filled with wrestling fans gleefully chanted “he’s gay” at out wrestler Anthony Bowens.

Bowens has been out to the public since 2016, but according to WrestlingHeadlines.com, had never talked about his sexuality during AEW programming.

That changed recently as he took part in a planned segment alongside Max Caster, “Daddy Ass” Billy Gunn, and Harley Cameron. Cameron mentioned that she thought Bowens was into her, prompting a stunned response from the wrestler.

“Very, very serious question. Did you get kicked too many times in the head by a kangaroo when you were a kid?” he asked, then motioning to his clothing decorated in shiny pink and rainbows. “Because I don’t know if you can see my gear, but lady, I’m gay.”

Not only did the crowd erupt in cheers over the moment, but an actual chant of “he’s gay” soon filled the entire arena.

“And he’s taken,” the announcer added, referring to Bowens’ boyfriend of seven years, Michael Pavano.

According to Fightful Select, the segment was put together by Gunn and QT Marshall, and included them checking with Bowens to make sure he was okay with making such a proclamation on TV—and clearly, he was.

The reception obviously meant a lot to him as well, as he later shared the clip to social media expressing shock at how far the world of wrestling has come to respond to him mentioning being gay with such overwhelming positivity.

“Still more work to do,” he added. “Happy Pride.”
