And it's not The Real Friends of WeHo's fault!

RuPaul's Drag Race alum Willam has a theory for why the Season 15 episodes have been cut from 90 minutes of airtime to 60, and she just might be right...

The Emmy Award-winning competition series jumped networks from VH1 to MTV and advertised it as the biggest season yet, but the current size of the show and the 15 queens competing this year contradicts the length of the episodes. Drag Race fans and alum have not been happy about the change, especially since the new Todrick Hall-led reality show The Real Friends of WeHo seemed to replace that lost time.

"We worked too hard and invested too much money for a 45 min edit," contestant Salina EsTitties tweeted. "I say this as a viewer and fan of the show. I just wanted to see more of the gals."

But according to Willam, it's not the fault of the new reality series that's currently taking the heat, but of MTV's desire to air Drag Race reruns in one-hour time blocks. She explained the theory on her podcast Race Chaser to co-host Alaska.

“Somebody wrote online that [MTV] are planning on repeating Drag Race, and showing it repeatedly in an hour format, so that’s one of the reasons it’s a shorter episode,” the drag queen explained. “It’s not like The Real Friends of WeHo took their time away, it’s that MTV wants to repeat the episodes, and they need to be in an hour format for that to work.”

There were alternative options though. “Why can’t they just do a two hour format, and have Untucked be a half hour and then have the other thing (Real Friends of WeHo) be 90 minutes?" Willam pointed out. "But I don’t know, I’m not the head of marketing.”

Regardless, folks are not feeling the new reality series. As PinkNewsreports, The Real Friends of WeHo "debuted at #69 among original cable programming with 186,000 viewers. The preceding episode of Drag Race ranked at #6 on the same chart, with 578,000."
