8 Reasons to Date a Guy with a Dad Bod

Because abs are overrated.

After this 4th of July, I’m not feeling fabulous about my body. Despite my best attempts to get into shape, I look absolutely nothing like the muscle gods I saw at the pool party. Instead of doing a usual rant about body image issues in the gay community, I’m instead going to praise the vast majority of us that don’t often get praised for our bodies. At best, we get told, "it doesn’t matter how you look," instead of, "it does matter how you look, and you look awesome." So here they are. Eight reasons to date a guy with a dad bod (like Seth Rogen!).

1. He’s not afraid to eat or drink

None of that low-calorie, fat-free, sugar-free nonsense. He eats pizza. He eats burgers. He’s the first guy in line with you to get a burrito at 2 AM once the club closes. He’s not afraid to eat the stuff that tastes delicious. He’s also not afraid to drink. He won’t say things like, “I only drink vodka tonics” or drinking is “empty calories.” He’s not afraid to have a little stomach because hey, there’s nothing wrong with a little beer belly.

2. He doesn’t waste hours a week working out

Waste is a strong word, I know. But getting to the gym, changing, working out, showering, and returning home takes up a large chunk of time. He’ll be able to spend more time with you instead of cardio-ing at the gym.

3. He’s kind of looks like your father, which fulfills your daddy, Oedipal complex

Too real? But in all seriousness, there’s something alluring about dating a man with a normal body.

4. He values what’s on the inside

Alright. Not to go all corny on you guys, but it’s true. Men with dad bods are less superficial. They tend to care more about your personality and what’s underneath your skin.

5. You don’t feel the need to compete with him

The urge to compete with him disappears because you both have a different set of priorities than the muscle hunks. Competing over how you look, how muscular you are, and other superficial qualities aren’t important. Because of this, you'll have a happier and healthier relationship.

6. He jiggles

And as we all know, jiggling is great for both cuddling and sex. As they say, more cushion for the pushin'.

7. He knows how to have fun

Fact: big guys know how to have more fun. They let it all hang out, and they aren’t worried about what others think of them. They're less concerned about how the appear and what others are thinking of them, so they’re able to relax and have more fun.

8. He is SEXY

Just calling it how I see it. Dad bods are straight up sexy for the all reasons mentioned. Not only do guys with dad bod’s ooze confidence, but dad bods also show that he’s chill and not preoccupied with superficial qualities.
