Amber Heard Cites Angelina Jolie as Inspiration for Embracing Her Bisexuality

Actress Amber Heard (Paranoia, Machete Kills) says that Angelina Jolie's openness about bisexuality inspired her own desire to come out as a bisexual woman in Hollywood.

Blonde bombshell Amber Heard tells Company magazine in its December cover story that Angelina Jolie's frankness concerning sexuality inspired her own comfort with being out as a bisexual woman, reports AfterEllen.

Heard, much like Jolie, gravitates toward edgy, ass-kicking roles: Pineapple Express, The Rum Diary, Machete Kills, and most recently Paranoia. In the Company interview, Heard says, “[Angelina Jolie] is an incredible example – just an incredible force in terms of challenging the status quo. I think she talked about [being bisexual] honestly, which I love her for. Honesty is best – staying quiet can be so detrimental.”

Jolie famously acknowledged her bisexuality in a 2001 interview with Movieline, in which she explained, "When I was 20, I fell in love with somebody who happened to be a woman. I didn't flirt around with girls; I just suddenly noticed this woman's sweater and the way her pants fit and realized, my God! I was noticing things in a sexual way. I wanted to be close to her because I had feelings for her. The reality is, I love people."

This same open attitude drove Heard to come forth in 2010 about her own sexuality. Heard publicly came out at the GLAAD 25th anniversary celebration by arriving with her then-girlfriend, photographer Tasya van Ree. On coming out as bisexual, Huffington Post reported that Heard said to AfterEllen, "I personally think that if you deny something or if you hide something you're inadvertently admitting it's wrong. I don't feel like I'm wrong."
