Theresa and Heather of Douglasville, Ga are a lesbian couple with 11 school-age kids between them, nine of whom are adopted. This terrific pair of moms has entered Crate and Barrel's Ultimate Wedding contest to win $100,000 toward their dream wedding. Below is their story. Please follow the links and vote to help them win!
Believe it or not Heather and I met online. We exchanged emails, which gradually brought us to talking on the phone. We clicked right away and talked for over an hour before setting up a date.
I was so excited because being an adopted parent of 9 children it had been a while since I had been on a date that didn't include Chucky Cheese or McDonalds. Although I had informed her I had adopted kids she had no idea they would all run out the house to meet her once she pulled in the driveway, despite my telling them to stay in the house.
I thought surely she was going to put her car in reverse and drive away quickly before I made it out the front door. But instead she talked with the children, and once I walked out she flashed me a smile that let me know everything was okay. From that day on we have been starry eyed and have complete admiration for one another.
She has five children from previous marriages but only two school-aged, so between us we actually have 11 kids. Talk about a busy household! Heather takes care of me and ensures I don't lose sight of the fact that I am more than a mom of nine kids. She makes my hectic life calmer and happier. She says I provide her with unconditional love, affection and laughter. We balance each other. We get each other. We had some bumpy patches over the past year due to her coming out to her very Christian-based family, but in the end, Love Conquers All.
We are happily engaged and have set our wedding date for April 21, 2012. This date will mark our 2nd anniversary of knowing one another. I entered the Crate & Barrel Ultimate Wedding Contest so that we could possibly win the wedding of a lifetime. Having such a large household and expenses it would be very difficult for us to afford the wedding we both dream of.
We want to celebrate our love with family and friends and especially make our union a special memory in our children’s lives. We want them to see the beauty of love despite race, creed and sexual orientation. Although we have under 300 votes now and other couples have thousands we believe we still have a shot and faith that we can win! We truly appreciate everyone's vote and support in our endeavor for marriage equality and an ultimate wedding experience.
