Mark your calendars for October 18th, and draw little hearts all over the day, because that’s the date your new favorite movie—the one that mirrors all your awkward baby-lesbian high school feelings—is released nationwide. First Girl I Loved from writer-director Kerem Sanga tells the story of Anne, an outsider yearbook photographer at her Los Angeles-area high school who falls hard for popular high school softball star, Sasha. As their tentative romance unfolds, Anne’s best friend Clifton lashes out about his own hidden feelings in unexpected ways.
The cast is enough to make us giddy about First Girl I Loved, with Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s and Casual's Dylan Gelula as Anne, and out actor Brianna Hildebrand of Deadpool as Sasha. The film also stars comedian Cameron Esposito, Emmy-winner Pamela Adlon, and Tim Heidecker of Tim & Eric fame.
But if that wasn’t enough to have you counting down the days until the film’s nationwide release, First Girl I Loved has been killing it on the festival circuit, winning the Best of NEXT award at the Sundance Film Festival and earning rave reviews, with Autostraddle calling the film, "earnest and awkward, hilarious and touching."
