According to a report by Deadline, a reboot of the Ocean’s Eleven franchise is set to start filming this October, and the leading cast is going to be comprised entirely of women.
As if the news of an all-female lineup isn’t exciting enough, the project (which has been titled Ocean’s Eight) has top-notch Hollywood A-listers like Rihanna and Anne Hathaway already attached to it!
Yes, you read that correctly. Rihanna is set to star in an Ocean’s Eleven remake!!![iframe https://giphy.com/embed/pLwJsDNhSMWHK allowfullscreen="" class=^{{"giphy-embed"}}^ frameborder="0" height="555" width="480"]
Other big names that are set to star in Ocean’s Eight include Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling, and rapper/actress Awkwafina.
The Hunger Games director Gary Ross is set to direct, with Steven Soderbergh (the director of the 2001 George Clooney-led Ocean’s Eleven) set to produce.
The news of the all-female cast comes at a crucial time in the film industry where there is a continuing push for more gender representation/equality and racial diversity. Not only is the speculated cast all women, but of the seven names already in talks to join, three of them are women of color.
Although it will probably be a while until more details are released on Ocean’s Eight, with a cast like this, it’ll will be definitely worth the wait.
