From director Maya Newell, The Dreamlife of Georgie Stone is a coming-of-age documentary short that tells the story of an Australian transgender teenager throughout 19 years of her life.

This upcoming Netflix doc shows Stone affirming her gender, finding her voice, and even daring to change laws. With Stone herself serving as a creative producer behind this project, this doc will also showcase her family supporting her journey every step of the way and respecting her wishes when it comes to making decisions about her gender identity.

The Dreamlife of Georgie Stone will also explore Stone’s young adulthood as she is finally able to dream of and prepare for what her life will look like for years to come.

“I keep thinking of the moments that have led me here,” Stone stays at the top of the trailer. Based on the footage, this new documentary will explore the earliest moments in Stone’s life up until the more recent events in her life. Through it all, she is shown advocating for trans rights and having the support of her loved ones.

In August 2022, Netflix also released the coming-of-age documentary Stay on Board about trans skateboarder Leo Baker and his journey navigating his identity within the world of sports. Thankfully, there seems to be a wave of projects coming out as of late that will inspire a new generation of queer people to embrace and love who they are.

We’ll always stan more LGBTQ+ representation in mainstream media!

The Dreamlife of Georgie Stone premieres September 22 on Netflix.
