Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union continue to slay the parenting game!

Because she is 15 years old, Zaya Wade is still unable to file the required paperwork to change her legal name and gender marker on her official documents. So dad, Dwyane, stepped up and filed the paperwork on behalf of his daughter.

In the documents obtained by The Blast, it appears that Dwyane filed a request with the Los Angeles County Court asking a judge to change his daughter’s legal name to Zaya Malachi Airamis Wade.

The paperwork also makes reference to Zaya’s mother, Siohvaughn Funches, as someone who is apparently not involved with this request. “[Dwyane Wade] has full authority to make decisions on behalf of the petitioning minor,” the documents note, “and he is not required to receive consent from Ms. Funches-Wade. As a courtesy, Ms. Funches-Wade has received notice of this petition.”

Dwyane’s filing also requests Zaya’s gender marker to be updated on her documents in order to “conform with [her] gender identity,” the paperwork reads. Given Dwyane’s notoriety as an NBA superstar, as well as his openness over the years about Zaya being trans, it stands to reason that a judge will grant this request to change her legal name without any hiccups.

Needless to say, it is incredibly heartwarming to see a father fighting for his trans daughter’s rights so fiercely. Dwyane has been going above and beyond at all times to support Zaya and be an example for other parents of LGBTQ+ kids.

We’re rooting Wade family and can’t wait for Zaya to cross this milestone in her life!
