It's gearing up to be one awesome weekend New York-based Mary Lambert fans. Our favorite singer/songwriter/spoken word artist/poet/all around inspiration will be making not one but two appearances at SubCulture in NYC this Saturday, providing us with the must-see event of the weekend. Even better, Mary will be performing new music from her upcoming album Heart On My Sleeve, due out in October.
For those of you who are somehow unfamiliar with Mary Lambert, you've definitely heard her hook in Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' same-sex anthem "Same Love," which Mary wrote based on her own experience growing up as a lesbian in an Evangelical Christian household. You've probably also heard her own single featuring the same hook, "She Keeps Me Warm," which reached #2 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart. Mary's performed on the MTV Video Music Awards, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and The Colbert Report, released two EPs, Letters Don't Talk and Welcome to the Age of My Body, and written a book of poetry called 500 Tips for Fat Girls. Her honest and powerful sound also earned her a well-deserved place on Out Magazine's Out 100 list. Click the links ahead to buy tickets for only $25 in advance to Mary's 8 pm or 10:30 pm shows at SubCulture. We've also included the video for "Body Love (Part 1 & 2) from her EP Welcome to the Age of My Body below just in case you still aren't sure what you're doing this Saturday night. Enjoy and see you there!
