Singer-songwriter Trey Pearson made headlines last year when he came out in a moving open letter that was published in online magazine 614 Columbus. Why all the buzz? Trey is the former lead singer of Christian rock band Everyday Sunday. So, needless to say, coming out to his fans, his family, his wife, his kids, and his fellow bandmates was no small feat.

Now, nearly a year later, after numerous TV appearances, Pride Parade performances, and touching social media updates, Trey has released his first solo music video for his recent single, “Silver Horizon.”

The video features a young church-goer singing along with Pearson’s single—and there’s an adorable twist at the end! Stephen Cone, the director of the video, is known for his gay coming-of-age film, Henry Gamble’s Birthday Party.

When talking to Teen Vogue about the new video, Pearson said:

“We wanted [the video] to be sweet and inspiring and a love story of sorts. And to also show that there are more and more open and affirming churches out there and that the world is changing … Then I think, obviously, with sort of my story in there, seeing that new beginning for myself was really powerful. I loved the way that it came together.”
