WATCH: Groundbreaking Ad Depicting Lesbian Couple Goes Viral in India

There's a revolutionary clothing ad featuring a lesbian couple going viral in India, a country that is still steeped in stigma surrounding the queer population. The story is all-too familiar: a woman and her partner are getting ready to Meet The Parents. It's sweet and touching, and I find myself wanting to know how "The Visit" turns out. We here in the US have almost gotten used to seeing companies advertise directly at the LGBT population (anyone else remember the rainbow Oreos during Pride Month several years ago?).

In India, however, it is a different story. Although a lower court deemed a ban on homosexuality unconstitutional, the Indian Supreme Court reversed the decision and reinstated the ban in 2013. It's a risky strategy for Anouk to take this angle in its commercial, but the company is owning it directly. The tagline at the end, "Bold is Beautiful," shows the company is strongly aligning itself with a progressive message. And with 1.7 million views, that message seems to be going viral.
