Facebook Apologizes for Banning Evangelist Over Transphobic Post

Franklin Graham slammed the site for censorship and attempting to "define truth."

Facebook banned evangelical blowhard Franklin Graham for 24 hours last week after someone reported a transphobic post he made in 2016.

Now the company has apologized for that decision.

“It was a mistake to ban Graham over a 2016 post he made on the site, and a mistake to have taken down the post,” a spokesperson for Facebook told The Charlotte Observer.

Graham’s post was in regards to Bruce Springsteen canceling his North Carolina concert in 2016 because of the anti-trans bathroom bill there.

“He says the NC law #HB2 to prevent men from being able to use women’s restrooms and locker rooms is going ‘backwards instead of forwards. Well, to be honest, we need to go back! Back to God. Back to respecting and honoring His commands,” the post read.

Facebook originally found the post to be in violation of their policy against “dehumanizing language,” which, quite frankly, seems fair considering Graham was essentially calling trans women men.

Unsurprisingly, Graham disagreed.

“Facebook is trying to define truth,” he accused, posting a link to a Fox News article about Facebook ‘policing speech.’ “God made the rules and His Word is truth. Actually, Facebook is censoring free speech.”

Graham, who is the son of famed televangelist Billy Graham, knows exactly what to say to get his disciples riled up, so it’s not much of a surprise that Facebook relented and apologized for the decision.

They also plan to restore the original post.
