Gender is a construct, and Google is tearing it apart with 53 brand new, nonbinary emojis!
According to Android Central, the most important aspect of creating genderless emojis was the hair. Designers styled it very specifically so the new batch of emojis don't read as either male or female. They've also redone the vampire so it dons a chain instead of a bow tie and the merperson now crosses its arms over its chest instead of the former seashell bra.
The emojis are coming to the Google Pixel this week and will eventually expand to all devices running Android Q.
LGBTQ people are already obsessed with the emojis!
