Last month, the city of Boston made national headlines when three heterosexual men decided they wanted to plan and throw a "Straight Pride" parade. Although a majority of people roasted the event and could see that it was clearly unneeded and being put on for attention (even Captain America actor and straight ally Chris Evans called it out for being stupid AF), apparently not everyone is taking the hint that "Straight Prides" shouldn't be a thing.
According to a report in the Los Angeles Times, a group called the National Straight Pride Coalition just applied for a permit to hold their own "Straight Pride" event in the city of Modesto, California next month.
"We’re promoting many different things: heterosexuality, masculinity, femininity, babies, born and especially unborn, the nuclear family of men, women and children—everything that made our country great," the event organizer and director of the National Straight Pride Coalition Don Grundmann said.
It's also being reported that since news of the permit application for a "Straight Pride" parade broke, the City of Modesto has been receiving backlash from understandably upset residents.
"Permits to host any event are granted based on operational feasibility, not based on values and certainly not based on any endorsement of beliefs," Modesto's community and media relations officer Thomas Reeves told the LA Times. "So although the city does not share in the beliefs of some groups that choose to hold their events here, we may not be able to deny a permit based on an organization’s values."
Should the permit application for the event be approved, Modesto's "Straight Pride" is slated to be held at Graceada Park on August 24.
*sigh*
Can Captain America come save us (again) and talk some sense into these event organizers?? Please?!?!
