Doubt Tops Screen Actors Guild Nominations

Awards’ season is heating up and the heavy-hitting Doubt, starring Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman leads the Screen Actors Guild nominations with five nods. But Gus van Sant's biopic Milk, Frost / Nixon and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button also scored several acting nods each.

Awards’ season is heating up and the heavy-hitting Doubt, starring Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman leads the Screen Actors Guildnominations with five nods. But Gus Van Sant’s biopic, virtually spurned by the Golden Globe’s, is on Doubt’s heels with several nominations as is Frost / Nixon and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Streep faces off for Outstanding Performance be a Female Actor in a Leading Role against Anne Hathaway for Rachel Getting Married, Angelina Jolie for Changeling, Melissa Leo for Frozen River and Kate Winslet for Revolutionary Road.

Winslet earned double nods, also landing a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for The Reader.

In the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role category, Frost / Nixon’sFrank Langella is up against Richard Jenkins in The Visitor, Sean Penn in Milk, Brad Pitt for Benjamin Button and Mickey Rourke for The Wrestler.

Doubt, Frost / Nixon, Milk, Slumdog Millionaire and Benjamin Button are up for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

Leading the way with mall screen nominations are Dexter and Mad Men in the drama department and 30 Rock for comedy.
