Love Lives! UK Lesbian Couple Tie the Knot in Prison

Two lesbian inmates have tied the knot in what could be the UK's first lesbian prison wedding. Although the incarcerated couple married last month, the news only surface Tuesday that murderer Sara Crane and drug dealer Joanne Davies, both 31, got permission from the jail governor to hold a secret ceremony. According to The Sun, Crane told another inmate: "It was the perfect day."

Apparently love knows no bounds because two lesbian inmates have tied the knot in what is thought to be the UK's first lesbian prison wedding.

Although the incarcerated couple said their vows last month during a civil partnership ceremony, the news only surfaced Tuesday that murderer Sara Crane and drug dealer Joanne Davies, both 31, got permission from the jail governor to hold the secret ceremony.

Prison governors are required to consider requests from gay and lesbian couples who wish to enter civil partnerships.

According to The Sun, Crane told another inmate: "It was the perfect day."

The newlyweds wore their own clothes for the ceremony and were allowed a party afterwards with their fellow inmates. The couple were allowed two hours of  "private" time in the evening. Clearly they weren't playing Bridge.

"Offenders are entitled to apply to register a civil partnership in prison." A Ministry of Justice spokesman said.

Davies got 2½ years for intent to supply drugs. Crane was jailed for life for stabbing a father of two to death in 2003.
