The Newlywed Game, on the Game Show Network, will add same-sex celebrity couples to the show this year. The network is already producing special episodes, and the first gay contestants to be featured are George Takei, from Star Trek, and Brad Altman, according to RadarOnline.
Takei and Altman were married in Los Angeles in September of 2008, not long before California's Prop 8 ban on same-sex marriage began.
While Takei and Altman will be the first same-sex couple on the show, Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi were GSN's first choice. Since de Rossi went on The Ellen Degeneres Show in March, and the couple did their own version of the game, they declined.
Other celebrity couples to appear in upcoming episodes include the first America's Next Top Model winner, Adrienne Curry and Brady Bunch star Christopher Knight, Bachelor Bob Guiney and All My Children's Rebecca Budig, and Baywatch's Brande Roderick and former NFL linebacker Glenn Cadrez.
Takei and his husband tape their episode next week, and it will be aired in November. Carnie Wilson is the host of the show.
