Poll: Majority of Californians Support Same-Sex Marriage

For the first time, a new poll reveals that support for equality is on the rise in California. More Californians support gay and lesbian couples getting married. The poll conducted by Public Policy Institute of California reports that 50% of respondents support same-sex marriage and 45% oppose it. Support is also growing for repealing "Don't ask, don't tell." Seventy-five percent of Californians say they support repealing the law.

A new poll reveals that support for equality is on the rise in California.

Less than two years after California residents approved the ban on same-sex marriage, the poll found that more people now support same-sex unions.

According to the LA Times, the poll conducted byPublic Policy Institute of Californiareports that 50% of respondents support same-sex marriage and 45% oppose it. 5% are undecided.

The PPIC said it marks the highest level of support for gay marriage their polls have recorded in California.

Support is also growing for repealing "Don't ask, don't tell." Seventy-five percent of Californians say they support repealing the law.

The PPIC polled 2,002 California adults by phone from March 9-16. It had a margin of error of 2%.
