Vista School Board Honoring Miss California

Vista School Board Honoring Miss California

The Board of Trustees of the Vista Unified School District in San Diego, will meet May 14th to determine if June 1, 2009 should be declared Carrie Prejean Day. Prejean is the reigning Miss California who voiced her support of “opposite” marriage during the Miss USA pageant a few weeks ago, but is now aligned with the National Organization for Marriage, the organization which recently produced the 'Gathering Storm' ads.

The following announcement was sent to members of  The North (San Diego) County LGBT Coalition from Nicol Apel, the coalition supervisor and board member.

“The Board of Trustees of the Vista Unified School District is meeting THIS Thursday, May 14 to determine if June 1, 2009 should be declared Carrie Prejean Day. Carrie Prejean, you may remember, is the reigning Miss California who voiced her support of “opposite” marriage during the Miss USA pageant a few weeks ago. She has since aligned herself with the National Organization for Marriage – the Princeton, New Jersey-based non-profit who recently produced the “Gathering Storm” television ad."

The note continues with "honoring Carrie Prejean, an outspoken opponent of marriage equality, marginalizes the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students this board is entrusted to educate."

There is a meeting at Foothill-Oak Elementary School Multipurpose Room, 1370 Oak Drive in Vista this Thursday at 7 pm, or email responses can be sent to the board members, as well.
