When I first started my transition, home was a really hard place for me to be. Every chance I got, I'd jump on a bus and go to Hollywood Blvd. I had this fantasy as a child of running away to Hollywood because when you're a queer kid in SoCal, you think that everything is better in Hollywood. I would walk up and down Hollywood Blvd applying to jobs, but I'd get a lot of strange looks when they saw that my paperwork didn't really match my appearance.Â
Not having my name or gender marker changed was a huge hurdle for me when it came to employment.
