Ellen Page Attends Pride Flashmob in Jamaica Despite High Risk of Homophobic Attacks
The 28-year-old star, who famously came out during at a speech at a Human Rights Campaign Foundation event last year, risked her safety yesterday to show solidarity with LGBTs in Jamaica. Homosexual acts are illegal in the country, potentially landing "offenders" up to a decade in jail, and homophobic and transphobic attacks are commonplace. Organizers J-Flag (Jamaica Forum of Lesbians, 'All-Sexuals' and Gays) felt it was too dangerous to hold a full-blown Pride parade but braved a flashmob in capital city Kingston.
