WATCH: Ref Calls Double Foul on WNBA's On-Court Kiss Between Seimone Augustus and Diana Taurasi

During Thursday night's WNBA conference finals game between the Minnesota Lynx and Phoenix Mercury, there was an unexpected moment of tenderness between two opponents who happen to be longtime friends, according to USA Today.

Out Lynx star Seimone Augustus was squaring up against the Mercury's Diana Taurasi, when the two completed the route with a quick peck. That's when the referee furiously stepped in and called a double technical foul on both players.

Now, admittedly, I'm no sports buff, but that call seems a little excessive to me. And can we also talk for just a moment about how Taurasi isn't out, but sure pings our gaydar, and hasn't been particularly linked to any male partners? Might this be a not-so-subtle acknowledgement of what many of us have long suspected?

Well, regardless, we'll just keep staring at that gif. Here's the whole clip, for context:
