The inspiration for the sip this week comes from North Hollywood’s Arts District, a magical place full of hipsters, actors, and other creative types. In the middle of this district lies one of my favorite L.A. dessert spots, The Republic of Pie. An enormous, lofty brick space that provides a home for emerging talent to showcase their music, the Republic attracts young and artsy foodies who wax poetic about the array of homemade pies and other unique confections.
My favorite slice is the epically delicious key lime, which I have transformed into the perfect summer martini with just four ingredients and a garnish. Craft it and find that the sour hit of lime is perfectly balanced by the sweetness of the lemongrass simple syrup, while the Stoli Vanil renders, almost magically, the feeling of a baked good while balancing sweetness. A blackberry garnish harmonizes with the citrus notes and elevates this cocktail to a level of ridiculous scrumptiousness.

Lemongrass & Lime Vanilla Martini (serves two)
Ingredients:
2 oz. Stoli Vanil
1 oz. lime juice
1 oz. lemon grass simple syrup
2 oz.club soda
Instructions:
Pour all ingredients into an ice-filled shaker.
Shake well.
Pour through strainer.
Garnish with blackberries.
Lemongrass Simple Syrup
Ingredients:
1/4 cup lemongrass, chopped
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
Instructions:
Simmer all ingredients over medium heat until sugar dissolves.
Remove from heat and cool.
Pour through strainer before mixing.
